Quoted a flat $400 for what I thought was a simple lead-response automation. Ended up taking about 14 hours once you count the client's messy CRM data and three rounds of edits. Not complaining exactly, first client, but wanted to post the real number since most posts here make it sound cleaner than it was.

This is really common on a first project in a new niche. Your second one in the same niche should go faster since you'll have a template to reuse.

This is exactly why I now scope a discovery call before quoting a flat price, messy existing data can double the build time.
