    ISBN requirements for KDP

    Do I need to buy my own ISBN or can I use the free Amazon one? What are the pros and cons? I want to eventually sell on other platforms too.

    Use the free Amazon ISBN to start. Only buy your own if you want to go wide later or care about publisher branding.

    Free ISBN is fine for most people. I bought my own after 20 books when I started taking it more seriously. Not necessary early on.
