You don't need to spend $500 on tools to start. My budget kit: Harbor Freight drill ($40), Amazon basics socket set ($25), cheap level and stud finder ($20), Allen key set ($10), basic hand tools ($30). Total: $125 and handles 90% of tasks!

Great budget breakdown! I'd add that Harbor Freight tools are fine for starting but upgrade once you're making money. The cheap drill will struggle with tough jobs.
