After testing over 200 thumbnails, I found a formula that works consistently: Big emotion face + one bold text (3 words max) + contrasting colors. Went from 3% CTR to 9%!

This is gold! I've been overcomplicating my thumbnails. Going to test this formula on my next 5 videos. What colors work best for contrast in your experience?

Yellow and black consistently performs well for me. Also red on blue backgrounds. The key is standing out against the white/dark YouTube interface.
